General Information
Referring cases to our unit

We accept cases for detailed cardiac examination, providing you with a detailed report of the cardiac lesions and digital photographs. We are particularly interested in looking at unusual cases and those in the fetal age-group of any gestation. This service is for academic purposes only and there is no charge providing that you can cover the costs of transportation of the specimen to and from our unit.
Consent

In order to be able to perform our examination it is essential that we have a copy of the consent from the parents stating that they are aware that the heart is being sent to our unit for detailed assessment. Please do not send anything to the unit without this information. Any specimens received without consent will be returned without examination.

You can download our consent for examination form here (PDF file 95KB)
Sending Specimens

Prior to sending specimens please contact our offices either via email or telephone. Once you receive a response from us then please ensure that the specimen is appropriately packed for the method of transportation. It is best for specimens to be formalin fixed, drained, and wrapped in wet gauze before being sealed in a watertight bag or container.
Specimens can then be sent to the address below after we have been contacted. We will then acknowledge receipt of specimens via email or phone.
Contact address

Please provide a contact email and address for sending the report and images. Email is by far the quickest and easiest method for us to communicate with you. If you cannot receive large images via email, we can provide you with a password so that you can download the images from a secure area of our website.
Return of specimens

It is useful for teaching and research purposes for us to retain specimens in our archive. In order to do so, we will need specific consent from the parents or patient that they are happy for us to retain the specimen within our archive and use it for these purposes. If this is not the case, please provide a return address and instructions for return.
